Celebrate Your Victories—Big and Small

Today, during a session with one of my mentees, I found the inspiration for this newsletter.

We were talking about celebration—perhaps the holiday season is creeping into our conversations, with Christmas just around the corner. 🎄

I encouraged her to celebrate her latest win: being selected for the next phase of a large hiring process.

It might seem like a small step to some, but I reminded her how far she’s come. Six months ago, she wouldn’t have even dared to dream of reaching this milestone. It’s a victory, and victories deserve celebration!

Why We Forget to Celebrate

The truth is, many of us are quick to criticize ourselves. We focus on every mistake, every misstep, and all the ways we think we’re failing.

But what about the wins? Even small achievements—like taking a step into the unknown, challenging yourself, or simply improving—are worthy of acknowledgement. Yet, we often ignore them, brushing them off as insignificant.

This is why I told my mentee: Celebrate your victories, no matter how small.

Even if it’s something as simple as treating yourself to a piece of chocolate (just one, 😉), take the time to mark your success. After all, if you don’t celebrate your wins, who will?

The Power of a Brag Document

One of the best tools I recommend for celebrating your wins is a brag document.

It’s a simple idea but incredibly effective. Keep a running list of your accomplishments—big and small. Write it down anytime you achieve something. When you’re feeling low or doubting yourself, open it up and look at all you’ve done.

You’ll be amazed. As you review your list, your morale will soar, and your self-esteem will rise. It’s like giving yourself a pep talk but with tangible proof that you’re capable, hardworking, and making progress.

This is your journey, and these are your achievements—don’t let anyone diminish them, especially not you!

Celebrating Together

Celebration doesn’t have to be a solo act. Invite the people who matter most to share in your joy.

In my family, we’ve made a tradition of going out for dinner whenever something good happens—whether it’s a new job, a promotion, or an important milestone. It doesn’t have to be extravagant; what matters is honouring the moment together.

These small celebrations fuel your journey. They remind you that you’re on the right path and that you should keep trusting your instincts.

Takeaway

So, here’s my advice: Celebrate your wins, however small they may seem. Acknowledge your efforts, document your progress, and involve the people you love.

Each victory is a step forward. Celebrate it, own it, and cherish it. Every step, no matter how small, brings you closer to where you want to be.

You’re doing great—keep going! 🎉
